General Position Description:
Under general supervision, serves as a guide and mentor to individuals participating in Gaston County Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion, a pre-arrest diversion program where officers provide the opportunity for case management and supportive services instead of arrest and jail. This includes providing personalized support, helping to identify and remove barriers, supporting connections to the recovery community, and offering resources useful for building recovery capital. As LEAD is based in harm reduction, is not abstinence-based, and is not time-limited, it is necessary to respect the path to recovery chosen by the LEAD participants.
Performance Expectations and Competencies
Shall demonstrate the use of knowledge/skill/judgment and provide supportive services that evidence ethical performance, and meet the needs of persons served and other stakeholders. Performance tasks shall include, but not be limited to:
Effective relationship building and communication with LEAD participants to enhance motivation and commitment to recovery process.
Providing personalized individual support, to include:
Promotion of Advocacy, Growth, and Development
Supportive Recovery Planning
Meditation
WRAP Facilitation
Exercise
Basic Skill Development
Social Activities
Collaborate with LEAD case management staff to ensure that identified needs of the participants are included in the individual service plan and appropriate resources are available.
Consumer Record Documentation to include:
Service Notes (shift and group)
Confidentiality and Privacy Practice Documentation
General admission, discharge, and referral forms.
Transport of LEAD participants to community resources and appointments.
Participate in the LEAD Operational Workgroup to share positive outcomes and troubleshoot barriers to participant success. This group includes direct-service providers, law enforcement, and a representative from the District Attorney’s Office.
Build a working relationship with law enforcement, to include assisting in the response to referrals so that LEAD participants can immediately be linked to program staff and services. Additional interactions may include occasional police ride-alongs and attending shift meetings to build officer support of the program and help reorient the traditional law enforcement approach to individuals with a substance use disorder.
Shall develop a working knowledge of applicable organizational policy and procedure and demonstrate compliance. This shall include, but not be limited to:

(All CPSS’s/CSW’s/RSW’s are required to complete upon hire and annually thereafter mandatory professional ethics training)

Shall complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
General Knowledge and Skills Required for Position:
General Knowledge of the dynamics of MH/DD/SA behavioral health disorders (BHD) and their impact upon persons served and their families; the bio/psycho/social factors involved in (BHD); up-to- date principles/techniques (evidence based/best practices) of crisis response, prevention, and intervention application to individuals possessing (BHD); the community resources available to persons with (BHD), to include behavioral health, social service, community services, and self-help groups; knowledge of billing and service record documentation requirements (NC Division of MH/DD/SA ASAM/IPRS, DMA/Value Options, LME, and PCC policy/procedure.
General Skill in the application of crisis assessment/prevention/intervention techniques that are considered as evidence based/best practices as defined by the NC Division of MH/DD/SA, and/or literature/research, and organizational policy/procedure; skill in the delivery of services using accepted crisis treatment modalities, to include, individual, family, marital, and in-community; skill in establishing/maintaining effective therapeutic and professional relationships with persons served and/or their family members; behavioral health providers; and, skill in accurately documenting services provided and billed.
Preferred and Minimum Position Qualifications:
At a minimum, the individual must meet the NC Division of MH/DD/SA requirements for Paraprofessional and certification as a Peer Support Specialist.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
At least one (1) years of experience in delivering Crisis Services. Credit may be given for previous crisis experience in other job positions, practicums, and internships as this experience relates to the provision of crisis services.
Certification as a Wrap Facilitator or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Additional Job Requirements (Licenses, Certifications, Personal Vehicle, etc.):
Valid driver’s license
Ability to be available weekend or evening hours based on program needs.
Travel is required as part of this position and may use company supplied vehicle and/or use of personal vehicle as defined in PCC policy/procedure.
Must have the ability to operate telephone, fax machine, and computer hardware/software.
Must have the ability to write in a manner that is legible/readable/understandable.
Willingness to work in a high stress/risk environment that is driven by team performance
Being on-call and shift work is required as part of this position.
