Position Overview
As a Peer Support Specialist, you will use your lived experience in recovery to support others on their journey. You will act as a mentor, advocate, and companion — helping people set and reach recovery goals, connecting them to community resources, and supporting overall wellness and stability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual peer support and encouragement to clients with mental health and/or substance use challenges.
- Help clients identify personal recovery goals and support them in building and carrying out a recovery plan.
- Assist clients in accessing community resources, such as housing, employment, treatment services, social supports, transportation, education, or other helpful services.
- Model healthy coping skills, wellness strategies, self-advocacy, and recovery behaviors based on personal experience.
- Support clients in building life skills (daily living skills, social skills, communication, self-care, etc.) as needed.
- Work collaboratively with clinical and support staff as part of a recovery team; attend meetings, share input, and contribute to individualized plans.
- Maintain accurate documentation of support given, client progress, referrals made, and any required reporting, while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Uphold agency ethics, respect cultural and individual differences, and maintain a strengths-based, non-judgmental approach.
Required Qualifications
- Active Peer Support Special Certification.
- High school diploma or GED (or equivalent).
- Crisis Intervention/EBPI Training Certification
- Valid License and Car Insurance
- CPR Certification
- Ability to work flexible hours (Sunday - Monday), Depending on client needs and meetings scheduled.

- Strong interpersonal, communication, and empathy skills.
- Ability to build trust, rapport, and maintain respectful, supportive relationships.
- Commitment to confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical standards.
- Familiarity with local community resources — housing, social services, treatment programs, employment support, etc.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team (Client Service Coordinators, HR, Director, Etc).
- Flexibility, reliability, and cultural sensitivity to work with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Work Environment & Conditions
- Work may take place in community settings, client's homes, office (during meetings), or outreach programs, — depending on where services are needed.
- May require flexible scheduling — evenings, weekends, or varying hours — to meet clients’ scheduling needs. You are able to create your own schedule for seeing your assign clients, but it must be aligned with what they need assistance with and their availability.
- Must maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and clear boundaries at all times.
